Kamal Kalai

Kamal Kalai (born 20 January 1977) is a Kokborok film director, producer and screenwriter known for his works in Kokborok cinema. He started his career as film director in the film “Rang Gola (The Hidden Treasure)” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyaar_Kiya_To_Darna_Kya_(1998_film) in 2002. He has learned a lot from Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Kamal Kalai is famous in Tripura as a journalist.

EARLY AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE:
Kamal Kalai was born in Twidu Khamar, Amarpur, Gomati to Kane Rai Kalai. He speaks Kokborok at home and loves indigenous food, music, literature and architecture. He did his schooling from Calvary English Medium School. He married Himadri Kalai and they have two daughter and a son named Khamari Kalai (elder daughter), Khaham Kalai (son), Khari Kalai (daughter).

Career
As Director:
He started his career in 2002 as a film director and producer. His first film is ‘Rang Gola’. Apart from this, he has sung and acted in music video (Song: Naithokti).
As TV Journalist:
Before Political career as EM of TTAADC (2021), he was the editor-in-chief and a news anchor of ‘KOK TRIPURA’, from 2014 to 2021. Previously, he had also served at ‘NE Television’ (2007-2009), ‘Akash Tripura’ (2009-2013). In April 2016, Kamal Kalai launched his news channel ‘KOKTRIPURA’. It is the first Kokborok language news channel in Tripura.

ACHIEVEMENTS:
1. Won a national film award

2. Yarwng was the inaugural film of the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India held in Goa in 2004.

3. Yarwng was also screened in Paris on December 8th, 2011 at the Maison des Cultures du Monde under the patronage of Program
Sorosoro of the Chirac Foundation.
